36 musicians have contributed to Magnet since we formed in March of 1996.

 

Mark Goodman
Mark is the songwriter, lead vocal person and occasional guitar player for Magnet. Magnet's new album, Caffeine Superstar, is his eighth album. In the early '90s he recorded three albums with Foggy Notion and one with My Dog Homer - both New York City based bands.

David Lowery
David produced the Shark Bait album. He also played guitar, keyboard and a little bass on some of the tunes.

Matt Wilson
Matt produced the "Which Way" EP. Matt was the founder, lead singer, guitar player for Trip Shakespeare. He also released a solo album in 1999 and fronted The Flops with John Munson of Semisonic and Trip Shakespeare.

Jonathan Segel
Jonathan played guitar and fiddle and sang backing vocals on Shark Bait. He also played guitar, fiddle and keys on the Summer '98 Magnet west coast tour. Jonathan plays fiddle in Camper van Beethoven. He toured with Sparklehorse in '99 and 2000. He fronted Jack & Jill and Hieronymous Firebrain. He is working on many projects...

Steve Schiltz
Steve played guitar on Caffeine Superstar - some very nice flavors - and played a couple Magnet shows in the fall of '98. He plays in his own band, Longwave on RCA records.

Paul Bauman
Paul plays guitar in Magnet - he wrote many of the hooks on Caffeine Superstar. He also plays in the Mercantilers. Paul has played in dozens of local New York bands and has extensive improvisational acting experience.

Bryan Harvey
Bryan played guitar, sang backing vocals, and played a little piano on Shark Bait. Bryan was one of two members of House of Freaks with Johnny Hott. He also played guitar in Gutterball with Bob Rupe and Steve Wynn. Bryan and his family were murdered in January, 2006. Donations to his memorial fund can be made at www.bryanandkathrynharvey.net

Alan Weatherhead
Alan played guitar and engineered on Shark Bait.

Matt Kohut
Matt played bass for all three 1997 Magnet tours. Matt’s other playing/recording credits include Amfibian, Ween, Hub Moore, Moe Tucker, Chris Harford, and f-hole.

Hub Moore
Hub sang backing vocals on "Don't Be a Penguin." Hub released a solo album on London in 1998. Hub fronted a great Boston band in the 1980s called "Three Colors." A new CD of their material will be released soon.

Moe Tucker
Moe drummed on Magnet's debut, "Don't Be a Penguin", and on all 1997 tours. She drummed in the Velvet Underground from 1965 through 1970. She has put out five solo albums. Moe occasionally tours with former Magnet members Matt Kohut and Greg Beshers. She lives in Georgia and has raised five children.

John Morand
John produced Shark Bait with David Lowery and played some percussion and keys on the record.

Victor Krummenacher
Victor played bass on Caffeine Superstar. He also played on the Summer '98 Magnet west coast tour. He fronts his own band called Victor Krummenacher. Victor plays bass in Camper van Beethoven and Cracker.

Greg Lisher
Greg played guitar on the Summer '98 Magnet west coast tour. He plays guitar in Camper van Beethoven and played in the Monks of Doom and in Victor Krummenacher's Great Laugh. He is recently released a solo album.

Chris Lovejoy
Chris plays drums in Magnet. He drummed on Caffeine Superstar and played on Shave Your Head from Shark Bait.

Dr. Dan Brenner
Dan played guitar on "Don't Be a Penguin" and “Shark Bait” - he also played bass on the "Which Way" EP. He is a psychiatrist in Cambridge, MA. Dan has also written soundtracks for feature films such "The Riddle", "Spare Me", and "The Rhythm Thief".

Mike Rivard
Mike played bass on Don’t Be a Penguin. Mike plays in Club d'Elf. He used to play in The Hypnosonics with Mark Sandman and Dana Colley from Morphine.


Andy Burton
Andy played keyboards on Shark Bait. He has recorded and/or played with Ian Hunter, Grace Pool, Richard X. Heyman, Tiny Lights, the Schramms – and played keyboards on Freedy Johnston's first album.

Bruce MacLaughlin
Bruce toured with Magnet in 1999. He played on Shave Your Head on Shark Bait. Bruce has played in many ska and reggae bands. The best known was Identity - a reggae band from Ohio on Island Records.

John Sluggett
John played bass for the very first Magnet show. He is Moe's drummer when she tours, and he plays guitar for Half Japanese. "Sluggo" - as Moe calls him - is quite a drummer.

Pat Wilson
Pat played guitar on Don’t Be a Penguin, and he played guitar on the '97 California Summer tour.

Matt Sakakeeny
Matt played guitar on the first Magnet tour in 1997. He is The Senior Contributing Producer for American Routes.

Greg Beshers
Greg played guitar on the '97 Fall tour. He has also toured with Moe Tucker’s band. Greg has a band called The Pillcrushers.


Martin Lynds
Martin played drums for a few Magnet shows. He plays drums in Last Train Home. He also plays with Karl Straub and the Graverobbers and El Quatro. He sometimes performs with the Silos and Jon Dee Graham.

John Nelson
John played drums on the Summer '98 Magnet west coast tour. He played drums and percussion in Poi Dog Pondering, the Silos, and Victor Krummenacher's Great Laugh. He currently plays in the SF Bay area.

Ted Horrell
Ted played guitar in Magnet on 9/9/99 KC show - and during an acoustic performance on KKFI. He also played a show DC to play at the 9:30 Club when we opened for The Church. Ted plays in The Central Standards.

Chris Wilson
Chris played bass for a few of Magnet's shows. He has played bass in Love Spit Love, Richard Butler's band on Maverick Records.

Chris De Rosa
Chris drummed at a few Magnet shows in early '99. Chris has also played with Debra Harry and Chris Stein, Skinner Box, Fluffer, Nate Ouderkirk, E-Trance, Liquid, and The Five Satins.

J. Carson Gray
J. Carson played bass for a few Magnet shows. He plays bass in Last Train Home -- and with Karl Straub and the Graverobbers, Lee Wilhoit and Jon Dee Graham.

Rob van Bibber
Rob played drums in Magnet in Kansas on 9/9/99. Rob toured with Hadacol and with Exit 159.

Chris Harfenist
Chris played in Magnet at The Intel Festival in the summer of '98. He played drums in Industrial Teepee - and wrote, sang, drummed for Sound of Urchin. Sound of Urchin signed major label deal in 2000 or so.

Bloomington Magnet
The following people played a few shows in Indiana during Summer '98. They all played in a Bloomington band called Satellite 66. Daniel Touw plays drums, Simon Hanstad plays bass, Tony Whitlock plays guitar, and Josh Seib plays guitar, keys and trumpet.

Anne Benkovitz
Anne played bass at a few Magnet shows in early '99. She previously played with The Rooks and Matt Keating.
